The State Grays Compton Organ

The organ was manufactured by the John Compton Organ Company and installed in the State Theatre in 1938 where it has been ever since. The organ is still in original condition with all it's original parts in place. The organ is built into two chambers, with the blower in an additional room.

There are six ranks of pipes, three in each chamber. In the Main chamber is the Diapason, Flute, and Violin, in the Solo is the Tibia, Tuba and Trumpet. There is also a Xylaphone, Glockenspiel, Melotone and a full set of percussion instruments.

The three Manual Console is fitted with an illuminated surround connected to an electro-mechanical dimmer unit and is mounted on a chain driven lift.

In the 80s' a Vox Humana rank was added and wired in with a custom made solid state relay unit. Around this time also a Grand Piano was added to the organ. It is mounted on a platform at the side of the stage rail and can be played from the organ keyboards.
